Weekend Deals

A few deals have caught my eye this weekend (ok so I saw them all in email newsletters) and I thought I’d share.

Personaly I’m considering buying the 4GB Flash Drive or the graphics card if it works with my PC). I realize it is by no means the best, but it blows my 5200FX out of the water and still leaves room to run duel cards.

Any great deals you want to share?

Engadget on Apple, and Blizzard

Let me start off with Blizzard. Tomorrow is the 19th. The significance? Well, as seen in my last post, it is the date that many believe to be the announcement of Starcraft 2. Blizzard is quoted as saying the announcement will be a “massive surprise.” This quote makes me wonder if Starcraft 2 is truly going to be announced or not – if it is the surprise is lost. I doubt the announcement will involve a new MMO, because Blizzard wouldn’t want to hinder World of Warcraft, Blizzard has already said the announcement won’t involve the Warcraft series, and the Diablo 3 web domain isn’t owned by Blizzard (they would buy it if they were releasing D3). This leaves Starcraft, or a new game.

“…we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future…” -Blizzard

Also, Blizzard put a teaser page up on their site on Monday. It is a timeline detailing their history of games.

Now, I’d also like to mention the recent Engadget post about the iPhone and Leopard being “pushed back.” I didn’t catch the post until after the email had been dubbed false, but the effect Engadget’s announcement had on Apple’s stock was incredible. The post led to over $4 billion dollars of Apple stock being dumped in six minutes. The stock has recovered by now, but the amount of money lost and gained must have been massive. The power of the media in any form is astounding.

EDIT: Figured I’d note that I am hoping for the release of Starcraft 2. As I said last time, Starcraft was the first game to hook me to PC games and is only rivaled by Unreal Tournament and maybe Counter-Strike.

iPod and my silly dilemma

Lately, I have been considering getting a new iPod some time after my current one dies (I expect this to happen sometime after Tuesday – when my warranty finally expires – probably during my trip to Austin, TX in two weeks). The problem is that there are several ways I could go on this. First off, I could use a new cell phone and the iPhone looks awesome, but a bit pricey. My second thought is getting a Nano because I love to run and the Nike sport kit looks like it could be useful (I love to track that kind of info). Third, there is rumor to suggest that sometime in the next month Apple will finally be announcing the real video iPod with touch screen. Finally there is the option of trying out another brand such as the Creative Vision:M, or a similar model.

Reasons for me not to get an iPod are simple, I have other things I would like to get. For example, another Apple product I’m quite interested in is a MacBook. The price of these are obviously a major factor in my decision.

So there you have it. I’m stalled on if I should consider getting a new iPod, and then if I do what kind…

Note: I’m currently on my 6th iPod under warranty. It is a 4th Gen 40GB B&W. I got it originally in October 2004. Before my warranty expired it broke for the 4th time and was extended for the 90 days. It broke again and I had to call several times before I got a hold of someone willing to verify the 90 day warranty since they never credited my account. The warranty for the 6th expires on 3/27/2007. (Most of the failures have been due to hard drive failure.)
